About Abiola Aderibigbe

Abiola Aderibigbe is a distinguished and highly accomplished General Counsel, dual-qualified in both the United Kingdom (England & Wales) and Europe (Ireland), with over 11 years of specialized expertise in construction, engineering, energy, and infrastructure law. His exceptional proficiency with Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contracts and deep mastery of standard forms such as FIDIC, JCT, and NEC, have established him as a foremost legal authority within the international construction and engineering sectors. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Liverpool John Moores University, Abiola combines intellectual rigor with extensive professional achievements, positioning him as a leading expert in his field.

Throughout his career, Abiola has spearheaded numerous high-profile projects, delivering legal and strategic counsel across a variety of industries, including renewable energy, infrastructure, and technology. He has successfully represented and/or collaborated with UK commercial banks, global investment banks, and multilateral development banks (MDBs) on landmark projects, ranging from greenfield and brownfield infrastructure developments to high-stakes renewable energy initiatives. His expertise extends to negotiating multi-million-pound contracts and facilitating asset-backed financing for major projects such as hospitals, data centres, and commercial real estate, while providing unmatched legal oversight on matters of international project finance, sustainable development, and intellectual property.

Abiola’s leadership abilities are as impressive as his legal acumen. As Group Head of Legal & Commercial at the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA Group), he led a talented team of lawyers, transforming the department into a powerhouse that saved BESA members over £2 million in legal fees within a single fiscal year. His roles as General Counsel at The Security Institute, General Counsel and Chief Governance & Compliance Officer at PSJUK, as well as Global General Counsel at How to Change the World, further exemplify his capacity to manage complex legal portfolios and deliver high-value solutions that drive organisational success. Whether advising senior executives, directors, and CEOs or managing day-to-day legal affairs, Abiola is renowned for his strategic foresight, problem-solving abilities, and exceptional commitment to excellence.

Abiola is also deeply embedded in the academic and professional development sectors, where his influence extends globally. He serves as Course Director/Module Leader at Liverpool John Moores University (via Informa Connect), where he leads a series of modules on the International Construction Law (LLM) master program. Additionally, as Faculty Director at the Chartered Institute of Professional Certifications, he imparts his extensive knowledge to professionals worldwide, further cementing his role as a thought leader in construction and engineering law. His contributions as a visiting lecturer at the University of Greenwich and his editorial work for Africa Construction Law (ACL) underline his dedication to advancing legal thought and shaping the future of the built environment sector.

Abiola’s academic credentials are equally impressive. Beyond his ongoing PhD, Abiola holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in (International) Corporate Finance from the University of Westminster, a Postgraduate Diploma in International Legal Practice from the University of Law, and an LLB from the University of Surrey. His commitment to continuous professional development is reflected in his certifications from the FIDIC Academy, where he completed specialised courses on net zero, decarbonisation, and integrity management in global infrastructure.

With a rare blend of legal expertise, leadership, and academic distinction, Abiola Aderibigbe stands as a global authority in construction, engineering, energy and infrastructure law.
