This Global Law Experts Round Table brought together UAE practitioners working across intellectual property, trademarks, tax, mergers and acquisitions and cross-border corporate law to examine the practical legal considerations facing businesses entering, operating in and structuring around the UAE market. Against a backdrop of free zone expansion and an evolving regulatory environment, the discussion began with how businesses should secure their intellectual property and brand assets from day one, and the risks that arise when that groundwork is not laid before commercial activity begins.
The panel then turned to the structural choices shaped by the introduction of UAE corporate tax, free zone regimes and cross-border holding structures, and where commercial objectives come into tension with tax and regulatory requirements. Finally, speakers considered how the UAE’s enforcement and dispute resolution landscape responds in practice when IP rights are infringed, a deal is contested or a cross-border arrangement breaks down, and the lessons from live matters that decision-makers should build into their planning before a dispute arises.
