Sourav studied law at the prestigious National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata, and began practising in 2005. He subsequently spent more than 14 years with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, including seven years as a Partner in the General Corporate and M&A practice. During this period, he advised Indian and international clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private investments, corporate governance and a wide range of commercial matters.

His career also includes in-house roles with Reliance Communications and Avaya GlobalConnect and service as Deputy General Counsel and Vice-President – Legal at OYO. This combination enables Sourav to approach legal matters not only from the perspective of external counsel, but also with an appreciation of board-level priorities, internal decision-making, operational constraints and the need for commercially workable advice.

Sourav’s recent work demonstrates the breadth of DB Legal’s transactional and commercial practice. He advised Kineco Limited on its 100% acquisitions of TRB Lightweight Structures Limited in the United Kingdom and Semvac A/S in Denmark, including drafting and negotiating the transaction documents and assisting with closing. These mandates required close coordination with overseas counsel and the management of cross-border legal workstreams for an Indian buyer acquiring foreign manufacturing businesses.

DB Legal also advised Cropcoin Technologies on raising venture capital investment from Unicorn India Ventures. Its commercial contracting work includes advising lebua Hotels on its re-entry into India and its franchise, hotel management and brand services agreements. The firm has also advised India’s largest movie exhibitor on technology and commercial agreements, including application development and maintenance, software licensing, source-code escrow and annual maintenance arrangements.
