Giancarlo de la Gasca is a specialist in Intellectual Property and Litigation with over 15 years of related experience. He has worked at intellectual property law firms in El Salvador and the United States.
His practice includes not only working at a major Salvadoran law firm, but also being in-house counsel and Head of the Registration and Intellectual Property Department for a Regional Bank, later acquired by CITI Group.
Thereafter he joined a regional law firm as Head and founder of the IP practice group, where he was included in the Latin American Edition of Chambers &Partners (2008) as a recommended IP lawyer for El Salvador.
He further obtained his LL.M. in Intellectual Property (with honors) from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, due to a scholarship awarded by the Inter American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI).
During his time in the U.S. he worked as Foreign Trademark Specialist (2009 – 2010) at a well respected Chicago-based IP boutique law firm, and subsequently retook his practice in El Salvador by joining a Salvadoran Mid sized legal firm as partner until 2013, when Giancarlo takes the decision to pursue his ultimate goal and found the first Salvadoran Boutique Law Firm dedicated to Intellectual Property and Litigation.
Giancarlo has served as adjunct professor of Intellectual Property, Contract Law and Commercial Litigation at the University Jose Matias Delgado.
In addition, Mr. de la Gasca is one of the few Arbitrators that are certified by the Salvadoran Chamber of Commerce as well as the Interamerican Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) for Intellectual Property Arbitration.
His experience of practicing law in a Latin American jurisdiction added to his study and experience of IP Law in the U.S., provides him a significant advantage over his peers when it comes to understanding the legal needs of foreign clients.
Giancarlo is Board member of Asociacion Compromiso, a non-profit entity where he develops pro-bono work in favor of his community.
