Gerard Marata

Gerard is a partner of LA GUARD and the head of the Tax Department since the firm’s creation in 2020.
LA GUARD is a legal boutique focussing on legal advice to medium-size and large companies, covering corporate and contractual law, M&A, tax law, employment law and civil and commercial litigation.
LA GUARD’s main goal is to offer tailor made solutions to fit our clients’ legal needs in the above-mentioned fields of activity.
Gerard has a degree in Law, a degree in Economics and took a master’s degree in business law at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona).
During his extensive career he has worked in top law firms specialized in business advice such as Cuatrecasas (where he worked for more than 15 years) and Ventura Garcés López-Ibor (7 years), until he created LA GUARD together with other colleagues.
Gerard has extensive experience in advising large national and international business groups and also in tax planning for wealthy individuals and family businesses. In environmental taxation, he is an expert in taxation of renewable energies and environmental taxes. In conjunction with the firm’s corporate lawyers, Gerard has participated in numerous M&A transactions, many of them with cross border implications.
Gerard is a regular speaker at conferences and regularly publishes specialized articles in the field of energy and environmental taxation.
