As of January 1, 2026, new rules are in effect for Ontario’s Construction Act, most notably annual holdback release on multi-year projects and an expanded adjudication regime. However, readers are cautioned that long term projects where the contract or procurement pre-date July 1, 2018 are still subject to the old regime. You need to know the date of the contract or procurement to know your rights.
