Digital forensics and post-incident investigation in Australia is the core work of Evidence Advisory, a Perth-based specialist practice led by Darren Michael, who brings 40 years of computing experience and more than 30 years in forensic work, including an early career with the Australian Federal Police. Speaking about the firm’s focus, he explains that Evidence Advisory assists organisations and, primarily, law firms with technology-related disputes involving electronic documents and post-incident forensic analysis, positioning the practice firmly within the legal rather than cyber security space. Intellectual property theft is a particularly common matter in Perth and internationally, with Michael noting the many inventive methods by which documents are exfiltrated from organisations. The firm has also handled contract disputes, criminal defence work and complex eDiscovery collections, including a 28-country pharmaceutical patent dispute requiring multilingual data collection and an internal corporate investigation involving more than three million documents. Evidence Advisory operates as a two-person practice, combining roughly 70 years of combined forensic experience, which Michael says allows the firm to respond quickly and remain closely client-focused. Expert evidence has been given across multiple jurisdictions, including Malaysia, reflecting the firm’s international reach.
