The VNIPO Determined to Deal with the Backlog of Industrial Property Applications

In an effort to implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, the VNIPO has identified 2025 as the year to launch a campaign to deal with the backlog in the process of examination of industrial property applications, specifically aiming to completely resolve the backlog before September 30, 2025.

For many years, applicants for registration of patents, trademarks and industrial designs in Vietnam have encountered many difficulties due to delays in the process of application examination at the VNIPO. According to the Minister of Science and Technology, the main reason is the rapidly increasing number of applications in the context of socio-economic development, while the VNIPO has been unable to improve its capacity to adequately respond to the changing situation.

To achieve the above goal, the VNIPO in coordination with the Ministry’s Office and the National Digital Transformation Agency makes efforts to improve technology infrastructure, improve the working process to suit the digital environment, transfer some tasks to automation to save processing time, improve labor productivity, and mobilize all its officers and employees to participate with high determination, work overtime, improve efficiency, in order to accelerate as most as possible the process of examination of applications that have been submitted for many years but are still pending and have not been granted a certificate.
