The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) of New Zealand has announced the start of accepting applications from operators interested in obtaining licenses to operate in the local online gambling market. As part of the new process, 15 licenses will be issued through a competitive selection, with strict requirements to protect players and minimize risks. Major companies already expressing interest in licensing include giants such as “888”, “Betway” and “Bet365”. Notably, this initiative is part of the New Zealand Launches Online Casino Licensing Process.
One of the key aspects of the new system will be allowing licensed operators to advertise their online services. Currently, the “Gambling Act 2003” prohibits online casino advertising, but with the introduction of the new system in 2026, these restrictions will be lifted, opening up new opportunities for promotion. This change aligns with the New Zealand Launches Online Casino Licensing Process.
