About Stuart Cavet

Stuart is a partner in the firm’s Energy, Infrastructure and Project Finance Group and joint head of the firm’s Middle East energy practice.  He recently moved from our Abu Dhabi office to take up the position of Managing Partner of our Kuwait office.

Stuart specialises in all kinds of energy related work – upstream, LNG, petrochemicals, gas transportation and power. He has worked on matters in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia and has previously been based in London, Vietnam, Singapore, India (where he spent three years as in-house counsel to BG Group) and Qatar.

Stuart has almost 20 years’ experience in the energy sector. Stuart has been recommended for Corporate/M&A work by PLC Which Lawyer? (“Best regarded for his regional work in the oil and gas sector, including advising on relevant commercial agreements and greenfield projects”) and noted by Legal 500 for his work on energy and infrastructure matters.

Stuart is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) and sits on several of its committees responsible for drafting industry standard documentation.  He is also the co-author of the Qatar chapter of The International Comparative Legal Guide to Gas Regulation 2012.

Stuart’s recent experience includes:

– Advising a Middle East NOC on multi-billion dollar investment commitments under an upstream concession agreement in its home jurisdiction;

– Advising a Middle East NOC on the eligibility of multi-million dollar costs under the Joint Account in relation to an upstream concession in SE Asia;

– Advising a Middle East NOC on its proposed corporate restructuring, including conducting due diligence of its worldwide upstream assets;

– Advising a Middle East NOC on the multi-billion dollar expansion of a petrochemical facility in its home jurisdiction;

– Advising a Middle East NOC in relation to LNG sale and purchase arrangements;

– Advising an IOC in relation to a farm-in of upstream assets in Pakistan;

– Advising an IOC in relation to an exchange of equity for upstream assets in the Middle East;

– Advising an IOC in relation to its withdrawal from an Iranian buyback contract in light of international sanctions;

– Advising an IOC on its downstream distribution agreements throughout the Middle East; and

– Advising on the development of both an IPP and an IWPP in the Middle East.
