Shailendra is a Partner with Khaitan & Co’s (India’s largest top-tier firm with a century+ legacy) Intellectual Property Practice Group. With over two decades of experience working in boutique IP firms and IP teams of full-service firms, his expertise covers the entire lifecycle of IP including prosecutions, enforcements, contentious matters, management, and transactional work. He advises several multinational and domestic conglomerates including Fortune 500 companies. Similarly, he also takes special interest in pro-bono matters by devoting time to the International Trademark Association’s (INTA) Pro-Bono Committee and its objectives.
He is actively involved in INTA’s policy/advocacy initiatives in India and is the past Chair of INTA’s India Global Advisory Council, and the INTA’s Trademark Office Practices India Subcommittee. He also has co-authored articles on the developments in the Indian IP law for several publications such as World Trademark Review, Oxford’s Journal of Intellectual Property, Lexology, Mondaq, Chambers & Partners, Practical Law and World IP Review.
He also believes that it is important to impart his learnings/experience over the years to others, which he does, by teaching/training police authorities, educational institutes, Government institutes (such as Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM)) and for other initiatives such as INTA’s Unreal Campaign.
He focuses on IP registration/prosecutions (including trademarks, copyrights, and designs), contentious and transactional matters (including IP diligence and transactional documentation, commercialization contracts, technology transfers, and media and entertainment contracts). He is part of the Firm’s TechReg Group which focuses on technology-related matters (including emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence).
