Patrick founded the Malaysian firm of pmc 22 years ago. Patrick is a Registered Patent Agent in Singapore and Malaysia. Due to client demand, pmc has grown to include offices in Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam and has an affiliate office in India. Patrick works with a highly experienced team of about 60 professionals and consultants.
Patrick graduated in 1975 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Patrick also has a postgraduate Diploma in Singapore IP Law. Soon after graduation, Patrick was recruited as an engineer in the Research & Development department of a multi-national company in England where he began his career in patents. His early in-house responsibilities included drafting patent specifications. Subsequently, he was responsible for the registration, maintenance and licensing of a large patent portfolio.
Patrick’s current practice covers both contentious and non-contentious work. On the litigation front, Patrick was recently appointed as technical expert in patent infringement matters in Malaysia and Vietnam. He handles trademark infringement cases, trademark oppositions and anti-counterfeiting initiatives. Patrick is also involved in non-contentious work, covering patent and trademark prosecution and transactional work, including the negotiation of licensing and franchise agreements. With offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and an Indian affiliate office, Patrick is able to provide a “one stop” service for clients in all areas of Intellectual Property in Asia. pmc’s clients come from a wide variety of business sectors, including petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food technology, general chemical, biotechnology, software, electronics, fashion and consumer goods.
Because of Patrick’s active participation in a number of Asian countries, he was elected the President of Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance (GALA [www.gala-marketlaw.com]) for the Asian region. He is also the current Chair of the American Intellectual Patent Law Association (AIPLA) Sub-Committee.
Patrick writes regularly for various publications including Managing Intellectual Property (Euromoney), World Intellectual Property Report (BNA), and has authored several other articles on all aspects of IP covering various Asian jurisdictions. Patrick also delivers lectures on the latest IP developments in Asia for the AIPLA, LES, GALA and other international organisations. Patrick is also active in Malaysian IP policy issues in consultation with local and international organisations, thereby contributing to the formulation of local IP legislation and guidelines.
Patrick is married to Gladys Mirandah, a familiar face in the IP scene who has also served the IP profession for the last 30 years. Following her parents’ footsteps is Patrick’s daughter, Denise Mirandah, who hails from Cambridge University. Denise joined the Singapore office in 2004.
