Patrick-Didier Nukuri

Patrick Didier Nukuri is a prominent Burundian lawyer and a leading figure in the country’s legal community. He currently serves as the Bâtonnier (President) of the Bar Association of Bujumbura and as the President of the National Committee of Bar Associations in Burundi. In these roles, he has been instrumental in advocating for legal reforms and strengthening the rule of law in the country.

Under his leadership, the Bar Association of Bujumbura celebrated its 75th anniversary in January 2025, highlighting its commitment to justice, human rights, and the independence of the judiciary. Nukuri emphasized the importance of adapting the legal profession to contemporary challenges, including globalization, technological advancements, and regional integration within the East African Community.

He has also been a vocal proponent for revising the law governing the legal profession in Burundi. In December 2017, as the coordinator of the commission monitoring legal reforms within the Bujumbura Bar, he advocated for updates to the 2002 law regulating the legal profession. His proposals included raising the academic requirement for bar admission from a bachelor’s to a master’s degree, establishing additional bar associations corresponding to the country’s appellate courts, and creating a dedicated law school to enhance legal education and professional standards.

Through his dedication and forward-thinking approach, Patrick Didier Nukuri continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the legal landscape of Burundi, ensuring that the profession evolves to meet the demands of a modern and just society.​
