Njaramba Gichuki

Prof. Njaramba Gichuki was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1998. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Honours degree, a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law, of the University of Nairobi. He set up the firm of Njaramba & Co. Advocates in 2000, and subsequently the firm of Wanyaga & Njaramba Advocates. He is a lecturer and trainer on various legal subjects. He is a Certified Public Secretary (CPS(K)). Njaramba is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Nairobi, where he teaches and conducts research in the Commercial Law Department. He is the immediate previous Chair of the Postgraduate Studies Committee at the School of Law, University of Nairobi. He has also taught at other institutions including the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and the Kenya School of Monetary Studies.

He is currently the Chairman of the National Civil Aviation Administrative Review Tribunal. He is a director of both the Business and Law Institute and the African Financial Law Institute. He is also a registered Patent Agent. Njaramba is the author of The Law of Financial Institutions in Kenya, a book published by Law Africa, which is the key text used in teaching Banking Law in all major universities and institutions in Kenya. He has also authored articles in many areas of Law including Sports Law, Company Law, Financial Services Law, Intellectual Property, Capital Markets Law, Tax Law, Electronic Commerce and ICT Law, and in other areas including Environmental Law and Judicial Politics.

He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), the Committee on Continuing Professional Development (CCPD) of the LSK and the East Africa Law Society (EALS). He has previously served on the Editorial Committee of the LSK. Additionally, he is a member of the International Association of Sports Law (IASL). He has served as a board member at the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

Dr. Njaramba is an expert in Financial Law and has handled a vast range of matters in this area including legal drafting and development of business and financial laws, capacity building and training of various stakeholders, public awareness programmes, writing of legal opinions, development of curricula, development and setting up of OTC markets for shares, regulatory compliance for financial institutions, corporate rescue and restructure and many other matters.

He also has extensive experience in litigation in the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the High Court of Kenya, the Employment and Labour Relations Court, the Environment and Land Court, and various subordinate Courts and Tribunals. He has overseen the expeditious and efficient disposal of matters. He is also an expert in sports law and has successfully worked with the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya on various cases.
