Experience

Matt is a specialist construction lawyer who has been practicing for over 25 years. He has worked in large law firms both in New Zealand and Australia.

He is a multiple Construction Law prize winner (University of Melbourne), an associate member of AMINZ and a member of the New Zealand Society of Construction Law.

Matt has a broad practice. He provides pre-construction and procurement advice, drafts and negotiates project agreements and provides project advisory services (including around regulatory matters).

An experienced dispute resolution lawyer, Matt appears at all dispute resolution forums. He has acted on high value ($150M plus) and complex construction disputes and achieved successful outcomes for his clients in numerous adjudications and mediations.

He has acted for central government, council-controlled organizations, iwi, airports, port companies, universities, health care providers, developers, contractors, subcontractors, civil contractors, utility companies, energy companies, manufacturers, ski field operators, designers, project managers, body corporates, project financiers, residential builders, and homeowners.

Matt is a regular presenter on construction law topics. He has presented for the New Zealand Law Society, the Society of Construction Law, AMINZ and Legalwise among others, and is a guest lecturer at Massey University.
