About Martyn Haines
Martyn was a deck officer in the Merchant Navy rising to the rank of master mariner before transferring ashore into ship operations, chartering and fleet management, and qualified as a shipbroker.
In 1996, Martyn moved into third party ship liability insurance for a major London based insurer which introduced him to dispute resolution procedures.
Cost and budget control is a priority for effective claims handling and every opportunity was taken to find an early claim resolution if possible.
Martyn graduated to a claims team area manager and a senior claims director.
After a 3 year secondment to the New York claims office, in 2001, he moved to a London based international law firm and specialised in marine casualty investigation.
In 2016, Martyn qualified as a mediator and Civil Mediator Council accredited. He is a member of the Society of Mediators.
Martyn’s skills include interpersonal communication which is essential for facilitating dispute resolutions.
