Juan Carlos Manríquez Rosales

Juan Carlos Manríquez Rosales, founding partner of Manríquez & Benavides Attorneys, was born in Chillán on March 27, 1967.

Graduate in Legal and Social Sciences from the University of Valparaíso (1990), Law degree conferred by the Supreme Court of Chile (1991). Postgraduate in Economic and Business Criminal Law, University of Castilla – La Mancha, Spain (2011), Master of Laws from California Western School of Law, San Diego, USA (2016), specializing in Oral Litigation (Trial), in which oral trial competition he obtained the awards for Best Direct Examination (Criminal Law/Defense) and Best Cross-Examination (Civil Law/Defendant). Member of the International Association of Criminal Law (AIDP) and the Institute of Criminal Sciences of Chile (ICP). Since May 2016, he has been taking the First International Program “Fundamentals on Defence Rights Before International Courts” at The Siracusa International Institute, Syracuse, Italy, to obtain the ADL that enables him to be accepted on the roll of the International Criminal Court (ICCBA) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

He has taught and researched Criminal Law and Criminal Procedural Law at the Universities of Valparaíso, Del Mar and Andrés Bello. He is a Professor of Postgraduate and Specialization Courses for Oral and Guarantee Judges at the Judicial Academy of Chile, Rapporteur and Trainer in Environmental and Economic Criminal Law for the National Environmental Prosecutor’s Offices of Argentina (UFIMA), Venezuela (through RECAMPI), in Strategic Oral Litigation for the National Prosecutor’s Office (through the School of Prosecutors of the Public Ministry), and Advisor and Professor at the Higher Academy of the Magistracy (ASMAG) in Peru. He was also a guest professor at the Seminar on Economic Criminal Law at the PUC Santiago de Guayaquil, Ecuador; Professor of the Master’s Degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the U. Continental, in Peru, and Visiting Lecturer at both the Doctorate course in Criminal Law and Procedure and the Specialist course in Victimology, at the U. of Seville, Spain (2007, 2009 and 2011).

He has been a speaker and lecturer at various national and continental congresses on Criminal Law and Criminology; member of the Criminal Forum for the preparation of the Preliminary Draft of the New Chilean Criminal Code (2005). He is invited as an expert to report on the processing of bills in his specialty in the Constitution, Legislation and Justice Committees of the H. Chamber of Deputies and in the Senate of the Republic, Chile.

Manríquez Rosales is the author of various national and international publications on Economic Criminal Law, Environmental Criminal Law, Customs and Tax Law; he is former President of the Port Company of Coquimbo, former Dean of the Faculty of Law of the U. del Mar, Casa Central, Viña del Mar, and has been President and Counselor of the Honorable College of Lawyers of Valparaíso for several periods.

In 2017, Global Law Experts awarded Manríquez & Benavides Abogados the Annual Awards Winner distinction in the Economic Crime Law Firm of the Year in Chile category.
