Grace Asemota

Grace is a partner of Hannaford Turner and has nearly 20 years’ experience of international trade and commodities work, as well as advising on a broad range of commercial disputes, having previously worked at Clyde & Co from 2002 to May 2020.

Grace’s practice covers both contentious and non-contentious matters, with a focus on the international trade and commodities sector. On the non-contentious aspect, Grace routinely advises banks and trading companies on letters of credit, performance bonds, guarantees and sale contracts. She is a member of the ICC UK Banking Committee.

On the contentious side, Grace handles a broad range of international trade and commodity related disputes, and general commercial disputes, in litigation and arbitration. Grace has acted on a number of high-profile High Court disputes, covering areas such as shipping, civil fraud and banking.  A significant proportion of Grace’s work takes place in arbitration and she has advised on arbitrations under the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), International Court of Arbitration (ICC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA), and International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) rules, both in London and abroad. Grace also handles matters before trade association boards such as the Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA) and Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Associations (FOSFA).

Grace has significant experience of trade and investment in Nigeria, as well as the broader West African region. She is admitted as a solicitor in England and is also admitted to the New York bar.
