George is the Chairman and Founding Partner at Gerivia Advocates LLP. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Commissioner for Oaths and a Notary Public.
He has specialized in offering of expert advisory services in Public Procurement & Asset Disposal matters, ensuring client compliance in matters relating to public procurement and asset disposal, Commercial Law, including review of financing agreements, Legal Drafting and reviewing international agreements for the procuring of services between Kenya and other countries.
Education and Training
George holds a Diploma in Procurement & Supply from the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply, a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi.
Career
Prior to joining Gerivia Advocates LLP, George was a Partner at Wambugu & Muriuki Advocates (2015-2020) and he was a Legal Officer at Kenya Airports Authority (2007-2015). He also worked at TripleOKLaw where he was a pupil/legal assistant from 2005-2006.
Experience
George has expansive experience in advising clients on procurement and disposal of assets. His expertise includes representation of clients before the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board (PPARB), High Court and Court of Appeal proceedings on procurement, and provision of procurement consultancy services.
In 2017, prior to the elections, he successfully defended the multiple cases involving Ballot Papers prior to the 2017 elections at the High Court and at the Court of Appeal at Nairobi. This is in addition to handling various procurement matters for various reputable organisations.
These clients include the national government departments, parastatals under various ministries, various insurance companies, international ICT, security and construction players in the area of Procurement Law.
At Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), he was involved in advising the Authority on various legal aspects of public procurement & asset disposal. He appeared before the PPARB on behalf of KAA to defend procurement decisions made by the Procuring Entity between the year 2007 when the current procurement law regime started and year 2015 when he left the Authority.
In other areas, he handled negotiation, drafting and preparation of various contracts including construction, concessions, advertisement and purchase of airport equipment. He also prepared leases and license agreements between KAA and service providers.
Mr. Karuthui also gained vast experience during his tenure at KAA, as a representative of the Kenyan Government in Bilateral Air Service Agreements (BASA) negotiations between Kenya and several countries including Tanzania, UAE, USA, UK, Swaziland, Botswana, Vietnam, Angola, and Uganda.
He also participated in ICAN (ICAO Air Service Negotiations) as part of the Kenyan delegation. He also gained experience and training on various aspects of aerodrome management during his tenure at KAA including aviation specific procurement.
George is passionate about education. He is currently the patron of Mbiri Primary School and former chairman of Moi Primary School.
He is also a founder of Trees for Books, an initiative that combines environmental consciousness in our school system with enhancement of the much-needed reading culture. It is this passion that has inspired the firm towards making a contribution in matter of education
A married father of two, George is an avid motoring enthusiast who enjoys long and challenging road drives. He enjoys reading about trends in transport (road, air and sea) and transport infrastructure. He also enjoys reading about, attending, and watching content on the local and global sports scene.
