Fred Pinto has an extensive background in intellectual property, technology, and business law, serving the needs of innovative founders over the last 20 years. He holds honour degrees in both Civil and Common Law from the University of Ottawa, a Master’s degree in Public International Law from Leiden University, and a Graduate Certificate in Comparative Law from McGill University.

He was named a Meredith Memorial scholar in IP law at McGill University Law School, has been an editor and author for the Leiden Journal of International Law, and has lectured extensively on the legal and business issues facing entrepreneurs at universities, continuing legal education courses, and in various professional forums, such as the Lord Reading Law Society and the International Economic Forum for the Americas. His writing has also appeared in several commercial publications, such as The Atlantic, Entrepreneur.com, Fox News, The Huffington Post, The Harvard International Review, and others.

He co-founded a music streaming venture that counted Bob Dylan among its partners and was named to the Canadian Advisory Committee on the GDPR, which advises the Canadian Parliament on data protection, cybersecurity and privacy matters.

Over the course of his career, he’s successfully appeared for his clients at various instances of provincial and federal courts, and has helped founders protect, grow and exit their businesses. He’s also helped them successfully close and manage complex agreements with some of the largest companies in the world, including Microsoft, Costco, Facebook, Salesforce, Disney, Verizon, Pixar, Universal Music, and many more.

He is the founder and lead instructor for Fit to Exit – an online program that helps entrepreneurs create their ideal business exit, as well as the co-founder of AlphaLaw, a joint initiative with Dr. Jonathan Afilalo, MD – a platform dedicated to offering data-driven insights to legal professionals through the use of big data and machine learning.
