After seven years working for the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam, Ms. Thuy founded D&N International in 1992 taking opportunity offered by the Government’s open-door policy.
Ms. Thuy was admitted as a registered Patent and Trademark Attorney in 1992. Over 30 years of practice, Ms. Thuy has been one of the most distinguished experts with expertise in a wide range of intellectual property including patent, design, trademark and copyright in Vietnam, Lao, Cambodia. Her practice emphasizes patent prosecution and counseling in the fields of in chemical and biochemical engineering as well as all aspects of intellectual property law including enforcement and litigation.
Ms. Thuy is a frequent contributor to INTA’s Annual Review of Developments in Trademark Law & Practice representing Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and IP Managing publications. She is fluent in English and Russian.
Landmark cases

One of the DNI’s most notable cases led by Ms. Thuy took place in 2011, when DNI represented Samsung Electronics Co Ltd against Vietnamese cybersquatting companies and individuals. DNI won the case for Samsung – the first domain name lawsuit in Vietnam, as well as a milestone in the history of the Vietnamese judicial system for the enforcement of IP and IT laws.
In another landmark case – the first administrative commercial lawsuit relating to a trademark dispute against the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology – Ms. Thuy led DNI’s litigation team in defense of Malco Products Inc and obtained a favourable outcome for its client in 2014.
More recently, in 2018 DNI, representing National Nail Corp, a US screw manufacturer, successfully opposed a patent application for a screw invention filed by a Taiwanese screw manufacturer. This is one of the very few cases in relation to patents and the first-ever lawsuit over the right to register patents to be settled in Vietnam. Recognising DNI’s strong arguments against the bad faith of the Taiwanese manufacturer, the court issued a ruling precluding the defendant from registering the patent in Vietnam. And, there again, Ms.Thuy was always behind the scene of the win.

On 7/3/2024, the Kuala Lumpur High Court in the case of Suriati binti Mohd Yusof v CTOS Data Systems Sdn Bhd [2024] MLJU 437; CLJU 440; (Civil Suit No. WA-23NCvC-8-01/2020) ruled that credit reporting agencies are not empowered to formulate a credit score or create their own criteria/percentage to formulate a credit score.
