I’m Antonia, I’m a practicing lawyer and a candidate for a PhD in law. Today I hold the position of President of NEDIK.
I am studying with a scholarship from the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), while in parallel with my doctoral studies I am teaching Intellectual Property and European Law at a well-known Higher Education Institution in Cyprus. An English graduate, I continued my undergraduate studies in Law at the University of Reading, UK, and obtained a Masters in Intellectual Property and the Digital Economy from the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
During my student years I represented our student faction ANAGENNISI in the National Cypriot Student Union of the United Kingdom (UK Cypriot Student Union) from the position of Councilor and served it from all positions up to that of its Deputy President. During my transition to Cyprus, I served the party as Secretary General of the Coordination Council of the Greek Democratic Party of Cyprus. Renaissance. Later I served our faction from the position of Deputy President of NEDHK.
In 2019, I was elected President of the Pan-Cypriot Federation of Student Unions (POFEN), which I represented in the Mediterranean Student Network (MedNet) and the European Union of Student Unions (ESU). During my tenure, we lobbied for an increase in student sponsorship for Cypriot students, were involved in the smooth transition of our students to the UK during BREXIT and achieved additional sponsorship of air fares for Cypriot students abroad.
In the past, I represented Cyprus at international youth leadership conferences where I presented the issue of the Cyprus problem. In particular, at the Global Youth Leadership Conference (GYLC) at the United Nations (New York, USA), the Cyprus issue was the main topic of discussion where I spoke with people from all over the world regarding its development. At the International Distinguished Student Program (ISLP) in China, I spoke on issues related to international politics.
Among others, I interned at the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Foundation (UNICRI) in Turin, Italy and at Harvard University in Boston. I participated in an Academy of ERA competition with a major in Environmental and Energy Law and, as a presenter, I presented my PhD thesis on European Digital Policy at loads of University conferences in front of approved professors across Europe.
I also participated in the work of the European Lawyers Foundation (ELF) in Immigration, Energy and Bankruptcy Law matters as a new lawyer, in programs that took place in Cyprus, Poland and Spain, being nominated by the Cyprus Bar Association.
As a member and partner of various Non-Profit Organizations throughout Cyprus, I continuously try to offer some of my time for issues that directly concern civil society. At the same time, I was for years a guide-team leader in organized camps, planning activities that helped the development of the child participants.
From time to time, I write for online newspapers on social justice, youth, current affairs, technology, digital politics and economics.
Finally, my interests outside the realm of politics are Basketball, Poetry, Poetry, Cooking, organizing cultural events/parties and also… Field Hockey.
