Alex Finch

About 

Alex practises across UK immigration matters, assisting private individuals as well as businesses. Alex has extensive knowledge in all aspects of UK business immigration, including work sponsorship, right to work checks and sponsor licence applications.   

Alex has a particular interest in complex British nationality claims, discretionary applications and family-based migration, including international adoption and surrogacy. Alex has extensive experience in working with private clients, including investors, entrepreneurs and private family offices. 

Alex has a forensic knowledge of the British Nationality Acts and is an expert in assessing whether a claim to British citizenship through UK Ancestry can be made. 

Alex advises on all aspects of personal immigration in the UK, including the EU Settlement Scheme, family migration, investors, Global Talent endorsement applications, settlement and naturalisation. He also regularly deals with human rights claims, applications outside the rules and appeals. He is regularly instructed in relation to international surrogacy arrangements.

Alex has written extensively on specialist immigration topics, including publications for the Financial Times, Personnel Today, The Engineer, The HR Director, Engineering UK and LexisNexis. Alex has co-authored a chapter on immigration issues for International Family Law Practice Sixth edition, edited by Professor Hodson OBE (LexisNexis, 2021). Passionate about immigration law reform, Alex has worked with MPs and third sector bodies in drafting and championing legislative amendments, including the successful campaign for British nationality for Chagossians, and an amendment to disapply the CSI requirements for European nationals applying for British citizenship post-Brexit. He is a member of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA). 

Alex co-hosts Constantine Law’s immigration podcast – “a practical, cross-border conversation for employers, HR teams and advisers working with internationally mobile talent” – alongside immigration partner Rebecca Tester. 

Career 

Alex qualified as a solicitor in 2010, working on private immigration, asylum and human rights cases, country guidance cases as well as participating in litigation in higher courts. 

In 2013 Alex co-founded a legal practice specialising in complex nationality cases before leaving to manage the private client team in one of the world’s biggest immigration law firms, advising on corporate immigration options and working with Tech Nation advising on Global Talent visas.
