About Richard Schmidt LL.M

Richard is graduated from the Faculty of Law of Budapest, Hungary, and acquired his LL.M degree in International and European Business Law in Belgium.
His hobbies include, playing the piano, he is also fond of classic and contemporary jazz.

REPRESNTING ITALIAN CLIENT IN ICC ARBITRATION
International construction dispute
Richard successfully represented our Italian Client from the oil & gas sector. The complex dispute regarding a Hungarian industrial plant was settled by arbitration in front of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce with the victory of theclient.
COLLECTING DEBT FOR RUSSIAN MANUFACTURER
Supply contract dispute
Richard represented a Russian manufacturer against a non-paying Hungarian company. The debtor, placed under legal pressure, finally paid the debt, so the Client could avoid arbitration.
ARBITRATION IN TRANSPORTATION MATTER
International transportation dispute
Richard represented with success a market leader logistics service provider in an international transportation dispute, in front of the Hungarian Court of Arbitration. By winning such a complex case Richard clearly exceeded the client’s expectations.
REPRESENTING UK CLIENT IN LITIGATION
Lease contract dispute
Richard represented a UK client in a commercial dispute involving the unlawful termination of a long-term lease agreement, and finally won the case in front a Supreme Court. The case was critical for the Client’s business in Hungary.
ARBITRATION OF EXCLUSIVE TRANSPORTATION CONTRACT
Breach of exclusive forwarding contract
Richard started arbitration on behalf of our client, whose exclusive forwarding contract was breached by the partner. The arbitration was successfully closed with a judgment in favaour of our client.
REPRESENTING SWISS CLIENT IN LITIGATION
Breach of loan agreement, collateral alienation
Richard won the case in court for our Swiss Client, offering lending and asset management services against a Hungarian debtor who failed to pay back the loan and alienated the real estate being the security of the loan. Richard reached a final judgement in favour of the client within 1 year.
REPRESENTING GREEK LANDLORD AGAINST HUNGARIAN TENANT
Legal dispute from a lease agreement
Richard represented our Greek Client against its Hungarian tenant. The tenant accumulated a significant debt during the recent years which he paid back within 6 months after Richard started legal procedures.
REPRESENTING ROMANIAN CLIENT IN CROSS-BORDER DISPUTE
Unlawful contract termination
Richard represented a Romanian Client in an unlawful long-term contract termination case. Instead starting a never-ending court battle, he managed to settle the dispute with success through out-of-court negotiations.
COMMERCIAL LAW
International machine supply contract
Richard recently advised a domestic paper manufacturer on an international machine supply contract, involving negotiations with manufacturers and suppliers from various European countries. Due to this supply the client could consolidate its market-leader position.
ARBITRATION IN CONSTRUCTION MATTER
FIDIC contract dispute, bank guarantee drawdown
Successful legal representation of a real estate investor in front of the Hungarian Court of Arbitration against the contractor building a warehouse, after drawing down bank guarantee due to lack of conformity.
