Christine M. KOO

Starting with solid background and experience in the insurance sector, Christine’s expertise in investments funds spans from the structuring and formation of investment funds under the insurance policies, to advising on the regulatory and compliance aspects in the operation of investment funds, to advising on the licencing of investment funds activities.

With the requirement on trading platforms of centralized virtual assets carrying on business in Hong Kong or actively marketing to Hong Kong investors to be licenced by the Securities and Futures Commission on 1 June 2023,  Christine has recently been very involved in advising operators of virtual asset trading platforms which plan to apply for a licence, including pre-existing platforms, on reviewing and revising their systems and controls so that these trading platforms can be licenced under the new licencing regime for setting up funds involving NFTs.

Christine has been a member of the Hong Kong Market Misconduct Tribunal since 2007. Notably she sat as a member of the Tribunal in the hearing of Chaoda Modern Agriculture (Holdings) Limited and in the hearing of Magic Holdings International  Limited to determine whether any market misconduct has taken place in relation to the listed securities of these companies.

For many years, Mrs. Koo has served as the honourary legal advisors of the Independent Financial Advisor Association Limited and the Society of Registered Financial Planners. She is also a member of the Insurance Law Committee and a member of the Pension Law Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong.
