Alvin was called to the English Bar as a Barrister, Lincoln’s Inn in 1998 and the Malaysian Bar in 1999. Alvin was formerly a partner in Messrs Shook Lin & Bok and joined Messrs Bodipalar Ponnudurai De Silva in late 2017. Alvin has represented clients in trials and appeals in all the superior courts and as counsel in both domestic and international arbitrations, as well as advocate and solicitors’ disciplinary proceedings.

Alvin’s forte is in litigating complex contentious disputes in corporate and commercial matters, with an emphasis on shareholder disputes and boardroom tussles, both in the context of listed entities as well as private companies and family disputes.
Alvin’s wide ranging and extensive litigation portfolio has afforded him considerable experience in formulating legal strategies, and proposing pre-emptive remedies, to resolve and manage the underlying risks involved in multifaceted and substantial disputes. Thus, by way of pragmatic solutions, clients are safeguarded from potential risks to their business.
Alvin has acted for a variety of litigants ranging from individuals and listed companies, to regulatory bodies such as the Central Bank and the Securities Commission. He also handles insolvency disputes from both sides of the divide, having acted for liquidators and receivers and managers in the recovery of assets; as well as distressed companies in formulating and implementing schemes of arrangement.
In addition, Alvin regularly advises and handles a variety of insurance disputes ranging from professional indemnity to directors’ liability claims.
Alvin frequently appears as counsel in the High Court and both the appellate courts, as well as in arbitration proceedings both domestic and international.
Away from the office, Alvin offers his services to train lawyers in litigation and advocacy through the Bar Council’s Advocacy Training Course and also contributes articles on Malaysian developments of company and commercial law in international legal publications.
