Kay K.W. Chan is recognized as a prominent legal professional in family law, with a practice that extends to advising related areas such as succession and closely held family business disputes. After graduating with honors from the City University of Hong Kong’s School of Law and being called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2008, Kay quickly built a balanced practice that allows him to gain insight into complex multidisciplinary legal problems.

His particular interest in family law includes advising matters in matrimonial law, divorce proceedings, child-related matters and dispute resolution process options including family mediation and Collaborative Law. Kay is not only a practising barrister but also a trained Family Mediator who handles complex financial and children matters such as Hague Convention abduction cases. His commitment to amicable dispute resolution and innovative family law practices is evident through his Collaborative Law training since 2010, his role as Vice Chair of the Hong Kong Collaborative Practice Group and his appointment to the Board of Directors of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.

Kay’s excellence in family law has been internationally recognized, with accolades such as being shortlisted as a finalist for the IBA Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year Award and being elected as a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. His diversified legal practice encompassing criminal law, civil law, and public law further enhances his advisory capacity, especially when family law intersects with succession, corporate, criminal or human rights issues.

In addition to his legal practice, Kay has also served as a part-time lecturer at the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law, where he taught matrimonial practice and procedure as well as  criminal and trial advocacy. His academic involvement keeps him up-to-date with legal developments and advocacy techniques.
