Ognjen Božović is a partner at the Belgrade law firm Atanasković & Božović, where he leads the firm’s dispute resolution practice. His involvement in complex matters frequently begins at the initial strategic assessment and extends through litigation or arbitration, appellate proceedings and final enforcement.
His experience includes commercial and civil disputes, international arbitration, bankruptcy and enforcement proceedings, administrative matters and public procurement disputes. He also advises on employment disputes, protection of property rights, and contentious regulatory and customs matters. His work includes high-value disputes with cross-border elements and matters requiring coordination with foreign counsel and proceedings in other jurisdictions.
Ognjen is a member of the Belgrade Bar Association and of the German-Serbian, French-Serbian and Swiss-Serbian Chambers of Commerce. He advises and represents clients in Serbian and English.

Ognjen also co-authored the Serbia chapter of the International Comparative Legal Guide – Enforcement of Foreign Judgments 2026. Serbia has specialised commercial courts with jurisdiction over a broad range of disputes arising from commercial relationships. Administrative disputes are dealt with separately within the administrative court system. Public procurement disputes are subject to a specialised statutory rights-protection mechanism, including proceedings before the Republic Commission for the Protection of Rights in Public Procurement Procedures and, where applicable, subsequent judicial review through an administrative dispute.
For international businesses, litigation in Serbia may also involve questions of jurisdiction, applicable law, interim protection, recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and foreign arbitral awards, and the location of assets available for enforcement. Identifying the appropriate forum, procedural route and ultimate enforcement strategy at an early stage can therefore be particularly important in cross-border matters.

1. Assess the dispute early.
Before proceedings commence, parties should assess the contractual framework, jurisdiction, applicable law, available remedies, relevant deadlines and the realistic commercial objectives of the dispute. Early assessment can preserve options that may become unavailable later.
2. Preserve and organise evidence.
Documents, electronic communications, contractual records and other evidence should be identified and preserved at an early stage. Where technical issues are involved, the potential need for expert evidence should also be considered in advance.
3. Plan for enforcement from the outset.
Where enforcement may ultimately be required, the location and nature of the counterparty’s assets, the availability of interim protection and any cross-border recognition requirements should form part of the litigation strategy from the beginning.
