Flavio Peter is a partner at Peter & Kim, practising from both Zurich and Geneva. His professional practice concentrates on international and domestic arbitration and related court proceedings. Flavio routinely acts for parties in high-value commercial arbitrations and is also experienced in arbitration-related litigation such as enforcement, attachment measures and setting-aside proceedings before Swiss courts. He has acted in roughly 60 arbitrations under a broad range of substantive laws and has developed substantive expertise across construction, international sales, long-term energy and gas supply contracts, agency and distribution disputes, joint ventures and post-M&A claims.

Flavio brings a combination of counsel and tribunal experience. He primarily acts as party representative but also regularly serves as chairman, sole arbitrator or co-arbitrator in proceedings conducted under a wide range of institutional rules and ad hoc regimes, including the ICC Rules, the Swiss Rules, UNCITRAL, SCC, VIAC and DIS rules. This procedural breadth allows him to guide clients through complex case management, emergency relief applications and multi-jurisdictional enforcement strategies.

Representative Matters and Practice Strengths

Representative matters from Flavio’s practice illustrate the scale and variety of disputes he handles. He has been counsel in several successive arbitrations concerning long-term natural gas deliveries, disputes involving sums in excess of USD 500 million and USD 250 million, and has led or supported major construction, mining and commodities arbitrations. He has also acted as lead counsel in a CHF 145 million arbitration under the Swiss Rules involving the sale and purchase of securities. Flavio has defended awards before the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, demonstrating practical experience with the practice on setting aside proceedings, which is critical for the client’s effective post-award strategy.

Flavio’s academic and professional credentials further complement his practice. He holds an LL.M. from the University of California at Berkeley and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He also is an active member in the community, co-chairing the Marketing Committee of the Swiss Arbitration Association/Swiss Arbitration Centre and a member of the ICC Swiss Arbitration Commission.
