BIR ADVISORY – Cautions The Public Against a Fraudulent Document Being Circulated

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) cautions the public against a fraudulent document being circulated, particularly an advisory for individual recipients of foreign-sourced trading income, purportedly issued by the International Tax Affairs Division (ITAD) and signed by the Commissioner of Internal Revenue, falsely obliging the said individuals to secure a “Foreign Trading Income Clearance” and to pay a mandatory “Taxable Verification Fee” prior to the release of such income.

The BIR categorically states that the said document is FAKE. The public is reminded that the BIR does not communicate with taxpayers through messaging apps such as WhatsApp or Messenger, and that all official tax payments must be made only through authorized channels listed on the BIR website.

Taxpayers are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious documents or activities to the nearest BIR office or through official communication channels.
