To qualify for the MNRP, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Employment Requirements: You must be a remote worker, freelancer, or independent contractor.
You must work for a non-Maltese employer, be a company director, or be self-employed.
Income Requirements: Applicants must meet a minimum gross yearly income of €42,000.
Non-EU and Non-EEA Nationals: The permit is open to citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland.
Health Insurance: Applicants must have valid health insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in Malta with a minimum cover of €100,000.
Flexibility: Live and work in Malta for up to 1 year, with the option to renew. In total, the permit can be extended up to 4 years.

Prepare Documentation: You’ll need to provide the following: Application Form N4 (for each individual in the application) and Consent Forms signed by both parents in case of minor dependants. Vaia Legal will assist in filling up these forms on your behalf.
Letter of Intent signed and dated by the Main Applicant clearly stating the motivations for moving to Malta and the intention of applying for the Nomad Residence Permit.
A valid passport or travel document.
Proof of employment or business ownership, such as an employment contract, invoices, or proof of freelance activity.
Proof of income showing that you meet the minimum threshold of €42,000 gross yearly income.
Curriculum Vitae disclosing details of professional timeline and academic qualifications.
The last three (3) months’ bank statements in the name of the Main Applicant.
Proof of health insurance coverage with a minimum cover of €100,000.
Hold a valid property rental or purchase agreement.
Provide a police conduct certificate.
Declaration to engage a representative – in cases where a Main Applicant wishes to engage Vaia Legal as their representative to assist with the application process, a declaration is to be submitted, signed by both parties and a witness.
Submit Your Application: Applications are processed through the Residency Malta Agency. Vaia Legal will submit your application to the agency on your behalf.
Pay the application fee (currently €300).
Wait for Approval: After submission, your application will be reviewed. If approved, you will receive your digital nomad visa to live and work in Malta.
Register with Local Authorities: Once you arrive in Malta, you will need to register with the local authorities and apply for a residence card.
At the biometrics collection appointment, a fee of €27.50 per residence card to be printed must be paid by the applicant.
Residence Permit Duration: The residence permit is valid for 1 year. You can renew it by proving that you continue to meet the eligibility criteria.
Tax Implications: While living in Malta, you may be subject to taxation on your global income. Vaia Legal will provide you with guidance on such matters.
Health Insurance: Health insurance is mandatory. If you are not eligible for public healthcare in Malta, you must have private health insurance.
Living Costs: While Malta offers a relatively affordable cost of living compared to other European countries, it’s important to plan for accommodation, food, transportation, and other living expenses.
